Rainfall Deficit: State records 48% rainfall deficit in 11 days |

Also, heatwave conditions are likely in three interior districts while coastal Odisha is reeling under high humidity levels, according to the IMD.

From June 1 to 19, the state has received 55.3 mm of rainfall against the normal rainfall of 106.9 mm, IMD sources said.“The sluggish monsoon is not only in Odisha but is being experienced in most parts of the country. The progress of the monsoon depends on a number of factors, and the lack of any system in the atmosphere is one of them,” said Manorama Mohanty, director of IMD’s Bhubaneswar Centre.
Among the districts, Sambalpur, Kandhamal, Deogarh, and Malkangiri have received normal rainfall, while the remaining 26 districts have had a deficit in rainfall, said Mohanty. “Most of the districts are experiencing pre-monsoon rain, and there is a forecast for thunderstorms with lightning likely at one or two places in the next 24 hours. Conditions are favourable for the progress of the monsoon in some of the southern districts in the next three to four days,” said Mohanty.
She said heatwave conditions are likely in Balangir, Nuapada, and Jharsuguda, while coastal districts will have hot and humid weather. Even though the capital city recorded heavy rain on Tuesday evening, high humidity levels and scorching temperatures made life difficult for the residents.
