Iron rod pierces through roof, girl injured at constructio site in Mumbai | Mumbai News – Times of India

Mumbai: A seven-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after an iron rod fell from an under-construction SRA building at Malad East and pierced the roof of her house while she and her family were indoors on Sunday. Kurar police have registered an FIR against an unknown person.The incident took place at Laxman Nagar in Kurar village, Malad East. The victim, Ishaanvi Majalkar, lives with her parents and two of her uncles. An SRA project is coming up in the vicinity and is nearing completion, police said.Around 1.45 pm on Sunday, Ishaanvi was home with her mother, Neeti, and her uncles, Latest, 28, and Roshan, 20. They were chatting when a loud sound was heard on the roof. The family found that the asbestos roof of their room had broken after an iron rod pierced through it. The rod and the broken asbestos injured Ishaanvi on her nose, back and left leg. The family rushed out of the house. A local resident, Rohit Devdiga, pointed out that the rod had fallen from the SRA building and a bamboo had also fallen from the site. Devdiga had narrowly escaped being hit by the bamboo. The residents noticed that no security net had been put up by the construction crew. Ishaanvi started crying and was rushed to the Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital at Kandivli for treatment. Later, her mother lodged a police complaint against the construction supervisor and workers.
