Patna: A station house officer (SHO) was transferred to police lines in Purnia district on Sunday after a data operator posted at his police station was found dead under suspicious circumstances. The deceased, Lalit Kumar (26), was found hanging from a rope in a room at the Koshi Project building, around 200 metres from the police station, on Saturday evening. Lalit, a native of Bhatheli village in Jalalgarh, had been posted at the Sarsi police station for the past two years.Lalit’s family has accused SHO Manish Chandra Yadav and sub-inspector Ayush Raj of murder.Purnia SP Kartikeya Sharma transferred the SHO and reassigned the SI to another police station. “Abhay Ranjan, in charge of Katihar Mor police outpost, has been appointed as the new in-charge of Sarsi station. A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the death. We are investigating the case from a murder angle. However, the post-mortem report is awaited to confirm whether Lalit died by suicide or was hanged after being murdered,” Sharma said.Banmankhi SDPO Subodh Kumar visited the site and a forensic team collected evidence. Lalit’s body was sent to Govt Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Purnia for post-mortem examination.
