Mumbai actor falls prey to investment scam, loses Rs 9 lakh in 2 months | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: A 51-year-old actor who has done film and TV shows was duped of nearly Rs 9 lakh by five people in an investment scam. Bangur Nagar police have registered a case of cheating and are probing further.The actor resides in Goregaon with his family. In Feb 2025, a doctor friend of his from Jharkhand called him and told him about a private company through which he could invest in the stock market and earn good profits. He shared the actor’s number with the company.On Feb 6, the actor received a call from a “financial advisor” working with the company and explained what they did. She emailed him a link to open an online account. The actor transferred Rs 2,000 as an initial investment by scanning a QR code sent to him over WhatsApp. The amount reflected in his online account.

The financial advisor subsequently encouraged him to invest a higher sum. Between Feb and March, the actor invested Rs 9.08 lakh totally, after various representatives from the company got in touch with him and advised him. On March 14, he withdrew a sum of Rs 35,000 from his investments. By March 28, his online account showed that he had made profits of Rs 84 lakh. But the next night, it suddenly showed a negative balance of Rs 14,000. The complainant was shocked and contacted the representatives from the company but nobody responded. He then gathered that he had been cheated and made an online complaint on the national cyber crime reporting portal. An FIR was registered on May 25 by Bangur Nagar police under provisions of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.
