Navi Mumbai: Rapper Emiway Bantai has received a death threat with an extortion demand for Rs 1 crore from a person claiming to be Goldy Brar, an aide of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and alleged mastermind in the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. The threat came just hours before Emiway Bantai released a song in tribute to Moose Wala on Sunday.According to an FIR lodged by NRI coastal police on Tuesday following a complaint by his manager, Pooja Kuila, the night before the song’s release, its teaser was posted online. It said while Emiway Bantai, aka Mohammad Bilal Shaikh, was recording a song at his Seawoods studio on the morning of May 25, Kuila received the death threat on her phone. The message, claiming to be from Canada-based Brar, warned that the rapper would be killed if he failed to pay Rs 1 crore in 24 hours. The message also cited US-based Rohit Godara, another alleged key member of Bishnoi’s gang who is suspected to have been involved in Moose Wala’s murder. Kuila alerted Emiway Bantai’s wife, Halina Kuche, and two team members. Kuche called up the number the threat came from. The call went through but no one responded.A police officer said the extortionist’s phone number has been traced to another state but didn’t divulge more. The rapper’s advocate, Sufian Qureshi, suggested that the threat could be linked to the tribute song. Police said they are also looking into the involvement of any rival of Emiway Bantai. The tribute to Moose Wala was released on the night of May 25. It has racked up more than 26 lakh views on YouTube.
