NEW DELHI: An FIR has been registered against BJP MLC and chief whip N Ravi Kumar on Tuesday at the Station Bazar Police Station in Kalaburagi, Karnataka over alleged derogatory remarks made against Kalaburagi deputy commissioner Fauzia Tarannum.During a protest demonstration at the BJP’s ‘Kalaburagi Chalo’ event on May 24, Ravikumar criticised the district administration, claiming it was operating under the control of the incumbent Congress government.His subsequent remarks about the district collector’s autonomy drew significant criticism, particularly when he made a derogatory reference suggesting she might have “come from Pakistan.”“The Kalaburagi DC office has also lost its independence. The DC madam is also listening to what they (Congress) say. I don’t know whether the DC has come from Pakistan or is an IAS officer here,” Ravikumar said, triggering backlash from progressive groups and civil society organisations, who have demanded action against him for the “insulting and communal” remarks.Fauzia Tarannum currently serves as the District Collector of Kalaburagi under the Congress-led state government. Though not directly involved in the political developments, her role as the administrative head of the district has come under the political spotlight amid heightened tensions.As the district collector of Kalaburagi, Fauzia Tarannum holds a crucial administrative position under the present Congress-led government in the state. While maintaining her non-political stance, her administrative responsibilities have garnered attention amidst the current political climate and growing tensions in the region.The remarks have been deemed objectionable, prompting local authorities to initiate legal action under relevant sections of the law.The issue has sparked political debate in the region, with calls for accountability and respectful discourse from public representatives. As of now, there has been no official response from N Ravi Kumar regarding the FIR.
