Truck rams into police cars at Peddashapur, constable dies | Hyderabad News
Hyderabad: A head constable died and two other policemen suffered injuries after a speeding lorry rammed into them while they were attending to another accident at Peddashapur on National Highway (NH)-44 on Saturday night. The lorry driver was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. The Shamshabad police said that head constable D Vijay Kumar, 35, died, while head constable Yadaiah and Home Guard Srinivas were injured. Around 9.15 pm on Saturday, police received a distress call about a road accident involving a lorry. To attend the accident, Vijay and other policemen went to the spot at Peddashapur in two different patrolling vehicles.Two policemen, including Vijay, were gathering details, while others were managing traffic on the NH-44. “The policmen were standing between the two patrolling vehicles and discussing about removing the lorry that had met the accident to avoid traffic disturbance. Suddenly, a truck, sporting a Karnataka registration number, travelling at high speed hit the patrolling vehicles and the policemen standing between them,” police said.Vijay died on the spot and the injured were rushed to hospital. Truck driver Ramesh Kamble was caught at the spot and shifted to the police station. When he was sent for a medical examination, he tested positive for alcohol.“The policemen were talking to the locals and gathering information about the distress call they received. Ramesh was moving at high speed and was drunk. Though parking lights indication was given, still, he hit the patrol vehicles from the rear,” assistant commissioner of police (Shamshabad) V Srikanth Goud told TOI. The stretch where the accident took place was also narrow.On learning about the accident, senior Cyberabad police officers rushed to the spot, took stock of the situation, and informed their top officers. On Sunday, amid a guard of honour, Vijay’s cremation was performed after the completion of the post-mortem examination. The other injured policemen were out of danger.Vijay is survived by a wife and two children, both sons.
