Fatal Accident on KIA Road: Boulder Truck Crashes Into Garbage Truck and SUV | Bengaluru News

BENGALURU: A 25-year-old garbage truck driver died, and two others were injured in a chain accident involving a boulder-laden truck, a garbage truck, and an SUV around 1.40 am on the elevated expressway on Bengaluru-Ballari Road (KIA Road).The traffic moving towards the city was disrupted for a few hours until police cleared the vehicles and boulders.The deceased was identified as Faizan Ahmed. He was the driver of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) garbage truck. Based on a primary investigation, Hebbal traffic police said the garbage truck broke down on the flyover near the Brigade Magnum building in Kodigehalli junction. Ahmed and his assistant, Marghboob Reza, were repairing the truck. Meanwhile, a heavy truck was carrying three boulders. The driver of the truck, identified as Harish, 36, failed to notice the garbage truck parked in the right lane.Harish crashed the truck into the garbage truck. Due to the impact, the truck turned around and toppled. Then Harish drove the truck to the extreme left lane, hit the crash barrier wall, and collided with an SUV at the rear end. Ahmed and Reza sustained severe injuries. The commuters alerted an ambulance and rushed both to nearby Baptist Hospital, where doctors, upon checking Ahmed, declared him brought dead.According to the complaint filed by Suneel SG, the driver of the SUV cab, picked up passengers from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and was heading towards Sarjapura to drop them. When he was on the expressway at Kodigehalli junction, a truck loaded with boulders drove his vehicle at high speed and recklessly hit the BBMP garbage truck, which was parked due to a breakdown. After hitting the crash barrier wall, it hit his SUV.Reza was shifted to Victoria Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Harish also suffered an injury to his leg and is undergoing treatment at a govt hospital in Yelahanka. Suneel requested police to take action against Harish for causing the accident due to speeding despite carrying the boulders. The Hebbal traffic police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 106 (causing death by negligence) against Harish and are waiting for his recovery for further necessary action.A senior officer said the traffic movement towards the city from KIA, Devanahalli, was diverted to the road under the expressway near Yelahanka until the trucks, SUV, and boulders were removed from the expressway using cranes and alternative trucks. The traffic movement was affected for a few hours.
