Chennai: Six people including a child were injured after a drunk man lost control of his car and smashed into a group of pedestrians and an autorickshaw near Pallikaranai on Wednesday night.The driver was arrested, and the car involved in the crash was seized by police.The incident occurred at night along Nookampalayam Main Road where many people gathered outside small shops to buy snacks or drink tea. A speeding car veered off course and ploughed into the crowd standing by the road. The car then crashed into a stationary autorickshaw before coming to a halt.The impact left six people injured, and the autorickshaw damaged. The Perumbakkam police sent the injured — Sandhya, 28, Arun Kumar, 24, Shanmugapriya, 12, Dhanam, 32, Sausiya, and Nisha — to a nearby hospital.The car driver, Bala, 36, a resident of Semmenchery, was drunk at the time of the accident, police said. He was caught by a few residents of the area and later handed over to the Pallikaranai traffic investigation wing.A case was registered against him for drunk and reckless driving, and the vehicle was impounded.
