Mumbai: After three persons were killed on Sunday in a violent clash between two families in Ganpat Patil Nagar slum in Dahisar (W), the MHB Colony police on Monday arrested one person from one of the families while a 16-year-old minor from the other household was taken by police into their custody and transferred to the Dongri correctional facility. The three who died on Sunday were Hamid Sheikh (49), Ram Gupta (50), and Arvind Gupta (23). The police said the Sheikh and Gupta families had had disputes over minor issues since 2022. On Monday the police arrested Amit Gupta, son of Ram Gupta, and sent Hamid Sheikh’s 16-year-old son to the Dongri facility. DCP (zone XI) Anand Bhoite confirmed that murder charges had been registered against both parties.Police reports indicated that the conflict began near Gali No. 14 in Ganpat Patil Nagar, where Ram Gupta’s coconut stall was located. An inebriated Hamid Shaikh arrived and confronted Ram, after which both parties called their sons to the location. The families then clashed with sharp weapons. Each family blamed the other. A family member of Gupta told TOI, “The Sheikh family has been creating problems since 2022. On Sunday, the matter went out of hand when Sheikh came drunk and created a ruckus near the coconut stall. This made Gupta call his sons.” Sheikh’s family members alleged that it was Gupta who blew the matter out of proportion. A person who witnessed the incident told TOI, “The two families had been fighting for long over petty issues. On Sunday the matter went out of hand and both parties clashed with sharp weapons.”The violent encounter, which took place at 4.30 pm on Sunday, involved Gupta’s sons Amar, Arvind, and Amit, and Hamid Sheikh and his sons Armaan and Hasan.
