NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain today, with thundershowers in Mumbai and neighbouring districts.The financial capital has been experiencing pre-monsoon showers, with the IMD issuing a yellow alert until May 22, except for today.The weather service has forecast moderate rain and thundershowers in Mumbai and Palghar districts of Maharashtra, whilst Thane and Raigad are under alerts for lightning, thunderstorms and moderate rainfall.The IMD’s forecast for Mumbai and Palghar includes thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph at isolated locations over the next four days.Several Maharashtra locations, including Kolhapur, Satara, Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Nasik, are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rain, alongside gusts of 50-60 kilometres per hour today.The Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai, indicates that South Konkan-Goa and Marathwada districts may face thunderstorms with lightning, heavy rain, and 40-50 kmph wind gusts. Ratnagiri is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (50-60 kmph) at isolated places on May 21 and 22.North Konkan regions might experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rain, and winds gusting to 40-50 kmph.Saturday morning saw rainfall across various parts of Mumbai, providing residents relief from humid conditions. The IMD forecasts a partly cloudy sky with possible light showers throughout the day.The weather service anticipates light to moderate rainfall across Mumbai, which has been receiving pre-monsoon showers recently.The IMD projects continued rainfall and thunderstorm activity across multiple regions of the country over the next five days.IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava told ANI on Friday that southern India, particularly Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, will experience consistent rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next five days.
