Nation comes first, says family of Puri YouTuber

Bhubaneswar: ‘Nation comes first’, asserted family members of the Puri-based YouTuber on Sunday after she became embroiled in a controversy following her suspected link to vlogger Jyoti Malhotra, who was arrested in Haryana on Saturday for allegedly leaking sensitive information to operatives in Pakistan. Amid Indo-Pak tensions, the family expressed support for strict action against her, if security agencies find any proof of wrongdoing against her.“We are sure that our daughter is not involved in anti-national activities. For us India comes first, and daughter second. If investigating agencies find any evidence against her, they are most welcome to take the most stringent action,” her grandfather said. The 21-year-old content creator, who is a graduate, claimed Malhotra was just a friend. “I came in contact with her through YouTube. I am unaware of anything that she is accused of. I would have not been in touch with her if I had known she was spying for the enemy country,” said the YouTuber and traveller blogger, who claims to have 14.5k followers. She further clarified that her association with Malhotra was strictly through content creation. In a social media post she said, “I am personally shocked to hear about her alleged espionage. If any investigative agencies wish to question me, I will provide full cooperation. Nation is above all. Jai Hind.” Her relatives indicated that she was an avid traveller and started her travel blog in July 2020. They confirmed that authorities have confiscated her electronic devices for examination. Police sources said she has been asked not to leave Puri while she is under investigation.A team of police officers visited her residence to interrogate her and her family members. “We have seized her phone and laptop for verification. She and her family are under scanner. We found several photos of the YouTuber with Malhotra at various places in the country, including Pahalgam. Those are being thoroughly examined,” a police officer said. The family said they are cooperating with the police. “We should not be victimised. My daughter is innocent. We all are cooperating with the police investigation,” said her father.
