Bhubaneswar: A 21-year-old YouTuber in Puri has come under the scanner of security agencies for her suspected link with travel blogger Jyoti Malhotra, who was arrested in Haryana on Saturday for allegedly spying for Pakistan.Agencies are questioning the Puri content creator following revelations she had travelled to Kartarpur corridor in Pakistan, a visa-free border crossing point, shortly after Malhotra’s visit to Puri Jagannath Temple last Sept.“Haryana police and India’s various security agencies are in touch with us. We have questioned the Puri YouTuber and shared details with the agencies,” Puri SP Vinit Agrawal said. Police sources said Malhotra visited Puri on Sept 21 and stayed for three days. She reportedly met the Puri YouTuber, who claimed their online friendship started about eight months ago. “We are now scrutinising Malhotra’s visit objectives and possible suspicious activities. As of now, we have not found anything suspicious,” Agrawal said.Police officers are questioning the Puri girl, whose identity has not been disclosed due to security reasons, regarding her relationship with Malhotra. She has informed officers that their connection was purely friendly, stemming from their shared interest in YouTube and travel blogging.“We found that the Puri YouTuber had travelled to Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan recently. The Kartarpur corridor is a visa-free border crossing. An online authorisation letter is required from the Indian govt to visit the site,” the Puri SP said.The girl has maintained her innocence regarding Malhotra’s alleged Pakistan connections and has assured full support to the investigating authorities. “Had I known her alleged anti-national activities, I would not have struck a friendship with her. I am ready to face questioning by any agency,” she said.Her father maintained that his daughter and Malhotra are merely friends. “My daughter has no involvement in anti-national activities and was unaware of Malhotra’s alleged espionage. We are cooperating with the police in their investigation,” he said.He added that his daughter loves travelling and had visited Kartarpur with another friend (not Malhotra) three months back for pilgrimage. “She got official permission to visit the place,” he said. Given that Malhotra was allegedly in touch with intelligence operatives from Pakistan and shared sensitive information through instant messaging sites, Odisha Police are conducting a thorough investigation into her possible connections in Odisha. “We are trying to identify all locations Malhotra had visited in Odisha and any additional contacts she may have made besides the girl in Puri,” a senior police officer said.
