Mumbai: The BMC’s P North ward office has issued a show-cause notice to actor Mithun Chakraborty for alleged unauthorised construction of a ground-plus-mezzanine floor structure at Erangal in Malad.The notice, dated May 10, a copy of which is with TOI, states that the actor must provide a satisfactory explanation for the construction or face action at his own cost and risk. When contacted, the actor said, “I have no unauthorised constructions, notice has been served to one and all, we are sending the reply for that.”The BMC also warned of prosecution under Section 475A of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act. “It should be noted that if you fail to show sufficient cause as described above, the said building or work will be removed/altered/pulled down/use of premises restored, at your risk and cost, and you may be prosecuted under section 475A of the said Act, which is punishable with imprisonment and fine,” states the notice served by the designated officer of P North ward office, Sagar Rane. When TOI reached out, P North assistant municipal commissioner Kundan Valvi and designated officer Sagar Rane did not comment on the issue.Further, the notice lists out the structures, which include two ground floor structures having mezzanine floors, and three temporary 10×10 units constructed using a combination of brick masonry walls, wooden planks, glass partitions, and AC sheet roofing, as roughly indicated in the site sketch. “All these constructions were carried out without obtaining permission,” states the notice.A similar notice was issued to the actor in 2011. Malad activist Nadeem Sheikh said BMC recently undertook a demolition drive in the area, but Chakraborty’s structure wasn’t touched. “Why this differential treatment?” he questioned. On May 13, 14 illegal structures in the Erangal and Valnai areas of Madh were demolished. BMC said a total of 24 structures were razed in two weeks and “over the past year, 101 unauthorized structures have come up.” BMC said all 101 structures will be demolished by the end of May.
