Govt signs MoU with NSE for financial literacy courses | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: The higher education department on Thursday signed an MoU with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) to provide financial literacy and investor awareness courses to students of higher educational institutions in the state.After completing the course, students can make informed decisions and participate in the securities market. It will have Level-I and Level-II courses of around 50 hours. The Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC) will provide credit for this course so that it can be added to the students’ academic bank of credits, said official sources.Higher education minister Suryabanshi Suraj said a few Odias are among 1,300 stockbrokers in the country. “To increase this number, we should start such types of courses of NSE in the colleges. Apart from promoting financial literacy and investor awareness among students, the collaboration will provide students with skills required to find employment in the securities market, mutual funds, investment advisors, and banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sector,” he added.He said the partnership may foster stronger ties between the industry and academia, ensuring that students receive relevant training and education. “The MoU is expected to attract young students to pursue higher education, potentially increasing the gross enrolment ratio in Odisha,” he added.The minister said they signed similar MoUs that led to new infrastructure development, human resource development, skill development, research, and vocational education, which can contribute to increased enrolment. “By promoting financial literacy, skill development, and industry-academia collaboration, the MoU signing can contribute to increased employability opportunities and a higher gross enrolment ratio in Odisha’s higher education sector,” he added.The minister said commerce students can choose trending fields in the stock market apart from costing and chartered accountant jobs. Students from arts, science, commerce, and various undergraduate programmes can enrol in these courses. Beyond conventional careers, this initiative will offer new career and employment opportunities for students, he added.Suraj said this will ensure the development of students’ professional skills based on the National Education Policy-2020, contributing to the overall development of the state’s education sector.
