Addicted to cocaine, doc sold Rs 1cr property to pay for drugs: Cops | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: The former CEO of a prominent corporate hospital who, along with a Mumbai-based courier, was arrested with 53 grams of cocaine by Cyberabad policelast week, was heavily addicted to the drug, said officials from the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB). Cops said that the 34-year-old even sold a property worth Rs 1 crore (approx) to fund her addiction.“She abused cocaine multiple times a day, often up to 10 times in 24 hours. In fact, she woke up every two or three hours in the night due to the addiction,” a source familiar with the investigation told TOI.Apart from cocaine, the doctor allegedly used sleeping pills too.About 20 days before her arrest on May 9, cops had visited her house and informed the family about she being under the police radar, and recommended that they move her into a de-addiction centre, a police source said.”However, she misbehaved with the police and even got into an argument with them,” the source added. On the day of the arrest, the doctor had stepped out to meet the courier, Balakrishna Rampyar Ram, who had come from Mumbai to deliver her a package.”She was unaware of still being under police watch. Cops had suspected that she would commit the offence again and had kept continuous surveillance,” a cop said, adding that they first captured her movement when she had met Balakrishna and paid Rs 5 lakh to procure the drug.Balakrishna allegedly returned to Mumbai with the money and handed it over to key drug supplier Vansh Thakkar, working as a DJ in the city.”The courier took the drug from Thakkar and brought it back to Hyderabad to hand it over to the doctor. This is when they were arrested,” the police said. The investigators added that Thakkar used to regularly supply drugs to the former CEO. It is believed that she might have come across him during parties. Thakkar is yet to be nabbed.”Balakrishna travelled to Hyderabad at least 10 times last month. This raises suspicions about him supplying drugs to other consumers too. He was once a gig worker who later got into drug work,” the source said.Though the doctor had turned on the ‘disappearing messages’ option on WhatsApp, police have found some conversations that took place between the consumer and Thakkar prior to her meeting Balakrishna. One such chat read: “Last time was 57? 8 left in total and sent 5 this time so 3 left”. Police said they were trying to decipher the messages and have found other similar conversations.
