T discoms to prepare 5-yr action plan to meet rising power demand | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Keeping in view the rising demand for power in the state, deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday directed the discoms to prepare an action plan for the next five years to provide quality power to all sectors.The deputy CM reviewed the preparedness of discoms at a meeting where principal secretary (energy) Sandeep Kumar Sultania and CMDs of power utilities submitted presentations on the demand estimates in the next five years.Sultania said that as of May 1, the existing capacity was 20,883 MW, with the total contracted capacity being 26,183 MW.He said the Central Electricity Authority had estimated thepeak electricity demandto reach 24,215 MW by the financial year 2030. He explained steps being taken by power generation companies such as Singareni, NTPC and Genco to meet this demand.TGSPDCL CMD Musharraf Faruqui said the peak demand within the company’s area, which was 9,862 MW last year, increased to 11,017 MW this year, an increase of 10.48%. This year, the milestone of 10,000 MW was crossed with ease, he said.He added that the peak demand for electricity in the Cyber City circle, a destination for multinational companies, increased by 33.69% compared to last year.Based on theelectricity consumption within the company’s area last year, they have been classified into four categories, he said. He also said that arrangements have been made for the construction of 410 new 33/11 KV substations with a capacity of 5,330 MVA in relation to the five-year action plan.The deputy CM emphasised the importance of meeting future power demands as the state was emerging as a leading destination international companies.
