Undertrial who escaped from Bengaluru hospital held

Bengaluru: A 32-year-old undertrial prisoner, who was on the run after escaping from Victoria Hospital, was nabbed by prison staff in Tumakuru Sunday night.
The accused, Chandrashekar, escaped from the hospital while in police custody late Saturday night. He was involved in multiple robbery cases and was last arrested by Subramanyapura police. He was admitted to the hospital on May 2 after he allegedly tried to end his life. He was being treated in the trauma and emergency care centre and was supposed to be kept in the prisoners’ ward after treatment.
However, Saturday night, he was kept in the general ward. The guard had cuffed his legs. But around 11pm, he managed to unlock the cuffs and escape. The matter was immediately reported to VV Puram police, who launched a hunt and nabbed the accused from Tumakuru bus stand. According to police, he was trying to take a bus to north Karnataka.
