Meeting with Union ministers for party’s welfare: Sengottaiyan

CHENNAI: Amid rumours of breaking up with AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, former minister and senior party leader K A Sengottaiyan on Monday said he has been careful about not creating a crisis for AIADMK by uttering even a single wrong word. “Everything is for the good,” he told TOI.
The veteran’s recent meetings with Union ministers Amit Shah and Nirmala Sitharaman, and skipping Palaniswami’s meetings and events, have fuelled speculation about strains in his relationship with the party leadership.

“The meeting with ministers was on invitation from them for the welfare of the party. The discussion was about the situation in TN and politics,” the nine-time MLA said. His meeting followed BJP’s keenness in renewing its alliance with the AIADMK to unseat the DMK regime. Interestingly, Sengottaiyan recently hailed PM Narendra Modi at a Chennai event.
On Monday, Sengottaiyan joined fellow AIADMK MLAs and Palaniswami in a walk-out to protest the denial of permission to raise an issue concerning the Tasmac case. He, however, instantly returned to participate in a calling attention motion he moved regarding the impact of textile processing industry expansion in Gobichettipalayam taluk. On speaker M Appavu’s request, the AIADMK leader removed a badge he was wearing, just like other AIADMK MLAs, to protest the alleged Tasmac scam.
“If I don’t raise the impact of toxicity now, the motion would have been rejected. About 40 lakh people depend on the pumping stations on river Bhavani, and protests are going on,” he explained.
