Betting ads: YouTuber drags DGP, others into it; booked

Hyderabad: Cyberabad’s cyber crime police have registered a criminal case against popular Telugu YouTuber, Anvesh, for allegedly defaming Telangana’s director general of police, Jitender, and some other IAS officers in a video about betting advertisements in Hyderabad Metro Rail.
The travel content creator with 2.11 million followers on YouTube allegedly used photographs of the senior police officials for a video titled ‘Telangana DGP Metro Scam’ that was uploaded on his channel, Prapancha Yatrikudu, on April 29. He pulled down the video after it ran into controversy.

Based on a complaint by a head constable, police initiated suo moto action and registered the case that came to light on Sunday.
Police said that Anvesh and his channel were booked under Sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 353 (statements conducing to public mischief), 356 (defamation) of BNS, and violation of the Information Technology Act.
“I came across a video which features DGP Jitender’s image in the thumbnail and makes several baseless and inflammatory allegations,” the complainant stated, adding that the video mentioned some other IAS officers as well as the managing director of Hyderabad metro rail, NVS Reddy.
“Senior officers were dragged into this narrative without evidence. The creator also uses extremely derogatory language and makes generalised anti-national comments,” the FIR stated.
According to it, the YouTuber even accused the DGP of promoting some illegal betting apps.
Alleging that Anvesh, who has made videos against online betting in the past as well, undermined the reputation of senior officials in law enforcement through the video, the complainant claimed that content was intended to provoke a breach of peace by misrepresenting facts.
“The accused keeps travelling from country to the other. So, we are yet to find out where he is at present and contact him. The case is still in the early stages of investigation,” said a cyber crime cop.
