‘Failed nation, poor country’: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi tears into Pakistan | Hyderabad News

NEW DELHI: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi launched a fresh attack on Pakistan, branding it a “failed nation” and accusing it of fuelling the “poison of terrorism.” He also slammed those trying to ignite communal tensions in the aftermath of the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
“Those speaking rubbish in Pakistan don’t understand Islam,” Owaisi said, adding, “It is time for us to give them a strong response so that this poison of terrorism is brought to an end.”
Condemning any communal polarisation following the April 22 attack, which claimed 26 lives, he said, “Those who are trying to divide Hindus and Muslims at this time, I want to tell them that they are making India weak. If you do Hindu-Muslim after such a terror attack, you must remember that ISI and terrorists in Pakistan will be happy.”
Speaking to reporters in Darbhanga, Bihar, on Sunday, Owaisi also shared that the opposition parties had urged the central government to take firm action and ensure justice for the victims’ families during the recent all-party meeting. “During the all-party meeting, the opposition asked the government to take action (against the Pahalgam attack) and give justice to the victims’ families and eliminate terrorism. Whatever action the government takes, we are with them, but what they will do and when, they need to say that,” he said.
Owaisi also pointed to the continuing threat of cross-border terrorism, citing several past attacks believed to have been carried out by Pakistan-based terrorists. “It is true that terrorists from Pakistan come to India and kill our people, whether it is 26/11, Pathankot air base, Uri attack, Pulwama attack,” he added.
In the wake of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack, top defence officials have met Prime Minister Narendra Modi for high-level briefings. Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh called on the PM on Sunday, while Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi met with him a day earlier at his Lok Kalyan Marg residence in Delhi.
Prime Minister Modi had also chaired a high-level meeting attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the three service chiefs, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to assess the security situation.
Following the attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) had met and affirmed India’s resolve to strike hard against terrorism. The government has vowed strict punishment for both the perpetrators and conspirators behind the attack and has granted the armed forces complete operational freedom to determine India’s response—its timing, targets, and nature.
