Even I received threat calls, asked police to investigate: CM

Bengaluru: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah Friday said he, too, has received threat calls, and directed police to investigate the matter.
The CM’s statement came in response to questions about Karnataka legislative assembly speaker UT Khader allegedly receiving similar threats. “Even I received threat calls to my life. There is nothing much one can do about such things,” Siddaramaiah said during a public interaction in Mandya.

He added that the matter has been referred to the police. “I asked police to identify who is making these calls,” the CM added.
On Thursday, Khader had acknowledged past threats to his life. Referring to the 2020 attack on former minister Tanveer Sait, he said, “I also faced threats when Sait was attacked. Since then, there has been no such incident. I’m co-operating with the authorities in this regard.”
Khader said he had spoken to the National Investigation Agency, which is probing activities of the banned Popular Front of India.
CM Siddaramaiah Friday questioned PM Narendra Modi’s silence on the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. “Why didn’t the PM visit the site? Isn’t this important?” he asked, calling it a security failure.
Criticising BJP leaders for visiting crime sites selectively, he said they seek political mileage. On the Suhas Shetty murder in Mangaluru, Siddaramaiah said the deceased was a rowdy-sheeter and directed the ADGP to arrest the culprits. Siddaramaiah accused the RSS and BJP of historically opposing reservations.
He demanded caste census with a constitutional amendment to raise the reservation cap above 50%, in line with population data. “Empowering the backward classes socially and economically is essential to end caste inequality,” he said, calling for reservations in the private sector.
