Four arrested for stealing bikes | Bhubaneswar News

Koraput: Police busted an inter-district motorcycle theft racket operating across southern Odisha with the arrest of four persons. Altogether 22 stolen motorcycles were recovered from them and returned to their rightful owners on Friday.
According to police, the arrested persons are Anil Harijan (33) of Bada Dubuli village, Narasingha Duaru (19) of Neelaguda village, Laxman Harijan (50) of Maidalpur in Nabarangpur district and Bhima Khilla (36) of Donapur village in Malkangiri district.
The racket was exposed following a complaint lodged by Santosh Kumar Mahapatra (19) of Soura Street in Jeypore, who reported the theft of his motorcycle from outside his residence on April 27 at Jeypore town police station.
“During investigation, we apprehended Narasingha Duaru. Upon interrogation, he admitted to stealing motorcycles along with Anil Harijan from various areas of Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts,” said SP Koraput Rohit Verma. They confessed to selling the stolen bikes to Laxman Harijan, who, along with Bhima Khilla, would then resell them in remote parts of Malkangiri for Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 depending on availability of buyers.
SDPO (Jeypore) Parth Kashyap said prime accused Anil Harijan is a repeat offender. Last year, he was arrested by Borigumma police and 15 stolen motorcycles were seized from him. He was recently released on bail and resumed his criminal activities during this period, he added. Koraput police have asked people to avoid purchasing second-hand motorcycles without proper documentation.
