Thane: Senior Central Railway officials will soon inspect Thane railway station to ensure ongoing redevelopment works are completed on schedule, Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske said on Wednesday. The railways will also coordinate with CIDCO to resolve passenger-related issues at Navi Mumbai stations, he added.
Mhaske was speaking after a meeting with Central Railway General Manager Dharam Veer Meena and MPs Shrirang Barne, Varsha Gaikwad, Rajabhau Waje, Chandrakant Handore, and Dhairyashil Patil at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. Key discussions included infrastructure upgrades, passenger amenities, and station improvement plans across the Mumbai division with Meena in the presence of other Central Railway officers, including K K Mishra, Deputy General Manager, Hiresh Mina, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division, Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer, among others.

“I have asked the railway officials to expedite redevelopment at Thane station, including building a new foot overbridge (FOB) connecting Platforms 1 to 7/8 and restoring the partially demolished middle FOB,” Mhaske said. He also urged the completion of platform roofing and drainage work ahead of the monsoon to prevent commuter inconvenience.
Mhaske further recommended appointing dedicated officers for each MP constituency to monitor and escalate local passenger issues. He also flagged coordination gaps between CIDCO and the railways affecting station development in Navi Mumbai and called for improved collaboration.
Meanwhile, passenger activist Nandkumar Deshmukh said he was trying to divert the attention of the administration towards the overcrowding at Thane station during peak morning and evening hours to prevent any untoward incident. Fellow activist Siddhesh Desai said the delay in completing the Kalwa-Airoli link was leading to the strain on Thane station.
