Corpn will survey bunk stalls in June

Times News Network
Deputy mayor M Mahesh Kumar discusses the issue of expired writ petitions and pavement encroachments in the city:

How does the town vending committee ensure that eligible vendors are allowed to operate?
The committee is currently identifying pavement encroachments. Once identified, Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) will remove these shops. If needed, evictions will also take place in designated vending zones across the city.
Have the civic authorities failed to act simply because a writ petition is displayed?
Officials have inspected shops displaying writ petitions. However, since legal cases are pending, no immediate action was taken. We are planning a review meeting regarding encroached shops and the eviction process. Additionally, we will move the court to facilitate the eviction of encroachments across the city.
Will the GCC conduct a survey on shops with writ petitions?
The survey will be conducted in June, after the court vacation. Once the number of such shops is scrutinized, appropriate steps will be taken.
