Mumbai: In its largest-ever donation received for the betterment of “students’ living experiences” on the campus, two of IIT Bombay’s alumni have committed to contribute Rs 100 crore for the purpose. The donation will be used for the enhancement of campus infrastructure, mainly the students’ residential facilities.
The contribution came from IITB alumni Nakul Aggarwal and Ritesh Arora, co-founders of BrowserStack, a cloud-based web and mobile testing platform, who were from the computer science and engineering batch of 2006. It will be directed towards two major initiatives—the reconstruction of Hostel 6, where both of them stayed as students, and Project Evergreen, a comprehensive initiative to modernise hostels 7, 8 and 21. A portion of the contribution will be given to the institute as part of BrowserStack‘s corporate social responsibility initiative.

The institute in a statement issued on Tuesday stated the contribution will significantly strengthen their efforts to create comfortable and modern facilities for students. Institute director Shireesh Kedare said, “This generous gesture by the two alumni exemplifies the spirit of giving back that our alumni community upholds. Their support will greatly enhance the living and learning environment for our students.”
Prof Ravindra Gudi, dean, alumni and corporate relations, said a significant portion of the donation will go towards renovating Hostel 6. “Most of the new hostels will accommodate around 1,100 students. The design of the hostel will be conceptualised in a distinctive way and have all modern amenities. Alumni spend a substantial amount of time in hostels as students, which has a significant bearing on their lives and shaping their personalities and in networking,” said Gudi.

Through this contribution, we are not just rebuilding hostels—we’re investing in environments where the next generation of tech leaders can collaborate, ideate, and push boundaries,” said Ritesh Arora, CEO of BrowserStack.
