Decision on Elphinstone bridge demolition expected tomorrow – The Times of India

Mumbai: The fate of Elphinstone Road Over Bridge, slated for demolition to make way for the Sewri-Worli connector project, will be decided on Monday following a crucial meeting between MMRDA officials and residents.
Mumbai suburban guardian minister Ashish Shelar assured residents their concerns would be discussed with CM Devendra Fadnavis. Two nearby buildings may face risks during demolition. Shelar promised a suitable resolution.
On Friday night, chaos erupted as residents of 19 buildings affected by the closure took to the streets around 9pm, removing barricades placed to restrict traffic. They alleged lack of transparency and absence of a firm rehabilitation plan. Local MLA Kalidas Kolambkar intervened and secured a temporary stay on its closure from the Chief Minister’s Office. The stay will be in place until Monday, when authorities are expected to address grievances of project-affected persons during the meeting. Among the 19 buildings, Laxmi Niwas and Haji Noorani are of particular concern, as pillars for the upcoming connector are planned to be erected on these plots.tnn
