BHUBANESWAR: Yard remodelling and freight train maintenance facility is ready at Sarla station in Sambalpur district. It will boost train maintenance and freight loading in the Sambalpur division of the East Coast Railway (ECoR).
The freight train maintenance facility with routine overhauling (ROH) was sanctioned in 2017-18. It was proposed to be established at Maneswar station.Later, the project was shifted to Sarla station in view of feasibility. The project was sanctioned at a cost of Rs 149.3 crore.
This project work was undertaken by Sambalpur division of ECoR to provide better service for maintenance of trains. The completion of yard remodelling work will ease congestion and facilitate the movement of passengers and goods trains.
Apart from this, the ROH facility at Sarla will boost the economy of the region besides increasing the capacity of ECoR for freight operations.
