BCom student falls 25ft to death from Richmond Road flyover in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A 19-year-old BCom student riding a motorcycle died after he fell off the flyover while negotiating the down ramp of Richmond Circle in the wee hours of Thursday. He fell from a height of around 25 feet.
The victim is Shreyas Patil, a resident of Vishwapriyanagar, Begur Road. The accident occurred around 3.45am when he was riding the motorcycle with friend K Chethan, a resident of Akshaynagar, as pillion. While police said they are yet to ascertain the duo’s destination at that odd hour, investigation revealed the bike hit the retaining wall of the flyover towards Residency Road and both of them were thrown off the vehicle onto the surface road below.
Shreyas’ father Shivananda Patil, a private company employee, said he had no idea when his son left home. “I was on night shift and left home in the evening,” he said. Police suspect the two visited a friend’s place and were riding back home when the accident occurred.
“Atop the flyover and on Bangalore Club side, the bike skidded off the road and rammed the sidewall. The impact was so deep that the riders fell on to the road below. The bike remained on the flyover. Both sustained serious injuries and were shifted to St John’s Hospital. Shreyas, who sustained serious head injuries, was declared brought dead. Chethan sustained fractures and is under treatment,” a police officer said, adding: “Once Chethan recovers and doctors give permission, we will take his statement.”
