Pro-Kannada group demands arrest of IAF officer Shiladitya Bose over Bengaluru road rage incident | Bengaluru News

NEW DELHI: Members of a pro-Kannada organisation on Tuesday staged a protest in front of the Baiyappanahalli Police Station demanding arrest of Indian Air Force officer Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose who was involved in a violent scuffle with a techie.
The Kannada activists also sought arrest of Bose’s wife Squadron Leader Madhumita Das who was seen in the video that showed the fist fight between the duo.
An FIR has been filed against the 40-year-old IAF officer under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including attempt to murder, voluntarily causing hurt, and criminal intimidation.
The complaint was filed by Vikas Kumar, a team lead at a software company’s call centre, who had earlier been arrested following Bose’s initial complaint.
The incident occurred early Monday morning as Wing Commander Bose and his wife were en route to Kempegowda International Airport from their DRDO quarters.
Bose later posted a video alleging that a group of Kannada-speaking individuals had verbally abused and chased him, triggering a confrontation. Police arrested Kumar based on this complaint.
However, CCTV footage and bystander videos later surfaced showing Bose physically assaulting Kumar in public while his wife attempted to restrain him. This led to a counter-complaint by Kumar, prompting the registration of a second FIR — this time against the officer.
State home minister G Parameshwara confirmed the registration of a case against Bose, who has since traveled to West Bengal.
“A case has been taken. Investigation will be done, and he will be secured,” he told reporters.
Bengaluru city police commissioner B Dayanand echoed this, stating: “Police are investigating both the cases. We will come to a conclusion based on the eyewitness accounts, CCTV footage, and other materials. The initial information shows that it was an altercation between a bike rider and the officer. The details will be revealed after the investigation. Let us not jump into conclusions.”
According to deputy commissioner of police (East) Devaraj D, a case was filed under several sections including 109 (Attempt to Murder), 115 (2) (Voluntarily Causing Hurt), 304 (Snatching), 324 (Mischief), 351 (Criminal Intimidation), and 352 (Intentional Insult to Provoke Breach of Peace).
Jyothi, Vikas’s mother, also made an emotional appeal in a video statement.
“Isn’t it wrong to put the blame entirely on my son? Being a commander, an IAF officer, he thrashed my son and also damaged his bike. Even after all this, we didn’t file a police complaint initially, thinking it was a small issue. But now they’ve made this a big issue and are troubling my son. I want justice for my son.”
Police confirmed that Squadron Leader Madhumita Das, Bose’s wife, had also lodged a complaint—this led to the initial arrest of Kumar. However, subsequent investigation suggested both parties were involved in the physical altercation.
“An altercation took place between them. Both attacked each other. Around 6 am on Monday, the Air Force officer was heading from his DRDO quarters to Kempegowda International Airport. His wife was driving, and he was seated beside her,” said DCP Devaraj.
The officer revealed that when Bose arrived at the police station, he was advised by the station house officer (SHO) to first get medical attention due to bleeding injuries. Since he was running late for a flight, Bose left without filing the complaint. Later, after his social media post went viral, police approached the DRDO quarters to speak with Madhumita, who then registered a formal complaint.
Explaining what led to the confrontation, Kumar reportedly told police he was simply passing by when he overheard a remark from Madhumita and asked, “What are you talking about?” He then walked over to Bose and asked, “What is Madam saying?”
“We have a lot of video evidence and will proceed with the investigation,” DCP Devaraj said.
