MDMK executive committee rejects Durai Vaiko’s resignation – The Times of India

Chennai: A day after MDMK principal secretary Durai Vaiko resigned from the post due to discord with party deputy general secretary Mallai Sathya, he withdrew the decision on Sunday after MDMK general secretary Vaiko brought about a truce between his son and his lieutenant at the party’s executive committee meet.
Durai Vaiko said Mallai Sathya has expressed regret for the unsavoury developments and has promised to be a pillar of support for him in future. “Accepting the assurance, I had withdrawn my resignation. I assured Sathya that I will also be a pillar of support for him,” Durai Vaiko told reporters after the meeting held at MDMK headquarters here.
Durai said the discord was due to few social media posts which brought disrepute to the party. “That was the reason for my resignation,” he said in the joint press meet with Vaiko and Mallai Sathya.
Mallai Sathya said he would jointly work with Durai to achieve the dreams of Vaiko.
“I expressed regret to Durai Vaiko if my actions had hurt him in the past. I insisted that he should continue as principal secretary,” he said.
Without going into the details of the conflict between the two leaders, MDMK general secretary Vaiko said Durai and Sathya had sorted out the issue amicably. “Sathya has promised that such a situation will not arise in future. Durai has also withdrawn his resignation. Both have shaken hands and promised to work together for the growth of the party,” he said adding that MDMK’s general council will be held in June. Vaiko also held the hands of Durai and Sathya together symbolising the truce.
Sources said that at one point of the meeting, Mallai Sathya too offered to resign. But Vaiko pacified both and brought about the truce.
The meeting started with the passage of nine resolutions including the one to protest against governor R N Ravi and the Union govt on April 26 in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore.
