Three arrested in Keonjhar for illegal SIM card racket | Bhubaneswar News

Keonjhar: Keonjhar police arrested three persons for allegedly selling SIM cards to cyber fraudsters in Saharapada under Patna police limits. The arrests came following an alert from the Indian Cyber Crime Co-ordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs.
The accused have been identified as Satyajit Siddharth Barik (21) from Mitwani village in Mayurbhanj district, Gyanadeep Mohapatra (22) from Kancha Sahi, Anandpur and Tapan Kumar Jena (31) from Khadi Bil village, Ghashipura.
According to police sources, the trio allegedly activated 114 SIM cards in the name of one Dhiraj Kumar Mahanta and these were subsequently used in cyber fraud operations. The investigation was initiated on March 23 following intelligence inputs from central authorities.
“We have seized several pieces of evidence, including three mobile phones, a fingerprint scanner, and photocopies of Aadhaar cards belonging to Satyajit Barik and Jandeep Mohapatra,” said a senior police official.
The case has been registered at the Keonjhar Cyber Crime Branch Police Station. This arrest highlights the growing concern over illegal SIM card distribution networks that enable cyber criminals to conduct fraudulent activities while maintaining anonymity.
