Poachers Arrested: Two Poachers Arrested with Boar Meat Near Bhitarkanika | Bhubaneswar News
Kendrapada: Forest officials arrested two poachers and seized 50 kg of wild boar meat at Bahakuda near Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapada district on Thursday.
“Acting on a tip-off, forest officials raided a place near the forest and arrested Benudhar Samal and Bairagi Samal of Bahakuda village with the meat. During interrogation, both confessed that they, along with others, killed a wild boar on Thursday after trapping it to cook the meat in a community feast to celebrate Raja on Friday,” said Nalinikanta Behera, the forest range officer of Mahakalapada.“The poachers were charged under sections 9, 27, 29, and 31 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. We are raiding hideouts to nab other poachers who managed to flee,” he added.
On Friday, the accused were produced in court at Rajnagar. Their bail applications were rejected. “Night patrolling has been doubled to nab the poachers. We are monitoring the villager’s movement within the park,” said Manas Das, the assistant chief conservator of the park.TNN
