Bengaluru: Mahavir Jayanti was celebrated with great enthusiasm and spiritual fervour in Bengaluru, drawing an estimated crowd of over 18,000 people. The day began at dawn with grand processions, featuring the idol of Lord Mahavir and 20-25 tableaux, each depicting various teachings and principles of Jainism, that came from various parts of the city and converged at Freedom Park on Thursday.
Sajjan Raj Mehta, former president of Jain Yuva Sangathan, said, “Every year, Bhagwan Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated to spread the teachings of Lord Mahavir of non-violence, ‘Live and let live,’ and ‘Ahimsa Parmo Dharma.’ This year also, the Jain community celebrated it in style from dawn till dusk.”
Jain monks and nuns participated in the event, offering spiritual discourses and urging people to adopt Lord Mahavir’s values in today’s world filled with conflict and unrest. A series of community service activities were organised, including blood donation camps, where 400 to 500 people donated blood, free health check-up, animal feeding, and donations to the underprivileged.
