Tahawwur Rana should be killed in encounter in full public view: Shiv Sena leader | Mumbai News – The Times of India

NEW DELHI: As the US authorities gave the final clearance for the extradition of Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana, Shiv Sena spokesperson Raju Waghmare made a bold statement on Wednesday, calling for Rana to be executed in a public encounter to serve as a deterrent to terrorists.
“The Shiv Sena demands that he be killed in an encounter in full public view. Such terrorists should be dealt with in this manner to send a strong message that this is the consequence of attacking India,” news agency PTI quoted Waghmare as saying.
Sources have confirmed that Tahawwur Rana is expected to be extradited to India from the United States “shortly,” following the resolution of his legal battle.
Indian government officials have stated that a multi-agency team is already in the US, completing all necessary paperwork for his transfer.
The development comes after Rana’s final appeal to avoid extradition was rejected by the US Supreme Court, bringing him closer to facing justice in India.
The 64-year-old Rana, currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, had previously filed an emergency petition to prevent his extradition, but it was denied by the US Supreme Court. His latest appeal was also rejected earlier this month.
Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani descent, was involved in the planning of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks alongside Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley. The attacks, which took place in 2008, resulted in the deaths of 166 people, including six Americans, and left many others injured.
The extradition of Rana comes after US President Donald Trump, during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February, announced that the Trump administration had approved Rana’s extradition to India. Rana will now face justice for his role in one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in India’s history.
