BS Yediyurappa seeks relaxation in Pocso case bail conditions

Bengaluru: Karnataka high court on Monday ordered notice to police on an application filed by former chief minister BS Yediyurappa seeking modification in the conditions of the order granting him anticipatory bail in a Pocso case.
While seeking modification in the Feb 7 order, counsel for Yediyurappa submitted that the applicant-petitioner was a senior leader of a political party who needed to keep himself moving throughout the state and at times across the country.
To this, Justice Pradeep Singh Yerur orally said political leaders, in the first place, should know all this, maintain higher standards, and avoid “deplorable activities”. The judge also adjourned the hearing beyond the summer vacation while directing the respondents to submit objections, if any.
The anticipatory bail granted to Yediyurappa restricts him from leaving the court’s jurisdiction without prior permission. The case originated from a complaint from a woman alleging Yediyurappa had sexually assaulted her 17-year-old daughter during a meeting on Feb 2, 2024, at his Bengaluru residence. Sadashivanagar police registered the case on March 14, 2024, which was later transferred to the CID. The complainant woman died of cancer on May 26, 2024.
