'Such incidents happen in big cities': Karnataka minister G Parameshwara's shocking remark over Bengaluru woman's molestation

NEW DELHI: Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara has come under fire for his comments regarding a recent molestation incident in Bengaluru.
The minister downplayed the severity of the incident by stating that such occurrences are common in large cities like Bengaluru, a remark that has been widely criticised for trivialising the crime.
The incident took place on April 3, when a man allegedly molested a woman in a secluded street in the Bharati Layout area of Suddaguntepalya.
CCTV footage from the scene, shared on social media, shows the man approaching two women walking along a narrow lane around 1.52am. He then forcibly pushes one of the women against a wall before fleeing.
In response, Bengaluru police registered a suo motu case after viewing the footage.
A police officer stated, “The video clearly shows the man molesting one of the women and running away. We have booked a case of stalking and sexual harassment under the relevant sections, and efforts are underway to trace the victim so we can file a formal complaint.”
