Eyebrows raised as netas say BJP aims for 100% presence in Shinde turf Thane

Thane: BJP’s Thane district president Sanjay Waghule and veteran MLA Sanjay Kelkar on Sunday said the party is working towards achieving “100% presence” in the region, asserting that they had abundant opportunities and positions for committed workers seeking to join the party.
The recruitment pitch could rekindle the fight between allies BJP and Shiv Sena for dominance in the region, considered deputy CM Eknath Shinde‘s turf, said political observers.
“BJP’s influence is swiftly expanding and many office bearers, former elected representatives from other parties are joining us. We have already enlisted over 84,000 members in Thane city alone and are broadening our presence in the district as well. Our workers are resolved to achieve ‘shat pratishat BJP’ (100% BJP presence) in Thane,” Waghule said while inducting several former corporators and workers from various parties at BJP’s 45th foundation day commemorations in the city.
Amid speculation of a few former elected representatives joining BJP before the municipal elections, Kelkar said, “Our party does not believe in dynasty politics, which explains why most of our prominent leaders, including our PM, hail from modest backgrounds.” —Manoj Badgeri
