Surya Tilak shines on Ram Lalla’s forehead for 4 mins | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: The ‘Surya Tilak‘ on the forehead of Ram Lalla‘s idol in Ayodhya lasted for around four minutes on Ram Navami on Sunday, said Saroj Kumar Panigrahi, a senior scientist of CSIR-Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee.
Panigrahi, who belongs to Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district, had led a team from CBRI and Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bengaluru, which created the mechanism to illuminate the forehead of the idol with a beam of sunlight. Last year, the Surya Tilak had lasted for two minutes, he said.
Last year, CBRI successfully demonstrated the surya tilak from the second floor of the Ram Temple. This time the third floor has been constructed and the Surya Tilak was beamed from the top floor. “This year, the optical design was completely new and we have added two more lenses in the optical path,” Panigrahi said.
He said they conducted trials of the system for two days before Rama Navami, while his team was working there from March 23.
He said the real challenge was to redirect the beam of sunlight during a particular time every Ram Navami, whose date changes every year. He added that they have developed the system for the next 100 years.
