Activists object as MBMC plans to axe 21 trees for swimming pool | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mira Bhayandar: The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has called for objections and suggestions as they have proposed uprooting of 21 trees for a swimming pool in Khari (Navghar) area of Bhayandar. Activists are unhappy, as the released notice doesn’t talk about compensatory plantation and they feel other options need to be considered.
Of these 21 trees, a Vad tree (Banyan Tree) is 36 years old, while six other trees are more than 20 years old. Jatin Dadhich, activist/journalist, said MBMC has deliberately uploaded the public notice on its official website after 7 days of its issuance, so that no one can raise an objection within a specified timeframe. Another activist from Mira Bhayandar Dhiraj Parab said the decision completely ignores all norms, as Fig Tree (peepal) and Vad Tree (Banyan) can’t be cut as per past court rulings. — Vishal Rajemahadik
