Challenges Faced by Tejas in Assembly Bypolls | Patna News – Times of India
PATNA: After delivering a relatively impressive performance in the recently held Lok Sabha polls, where the Grand Alliance secured nine seats — a significant increase of eight seats compared to the 2019 LS polls, RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav now confronts the formidable challenge of maintaining the cohesion of his allies and preserving the alliance’s seats in the forthcoming by-elections to five assembly seats. These by-elections are widely perceived as a crucial precursor to next year’s assembly elections in the state.
The five assembly seats slated for by-elections are Imamganj, Belaganj (both situated in Gaya district), Ramgarh (Kaimur), Tarari (Bhojpur), and Rupauli (Purnia). While the Election Commission has already proclaimed the date for the byelection in Rupauli, the dates for the other seats remain pending, as the respective MLAs who emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha elections have not yet tendered their resignations.
“We are meticulously devising strategies and collaborating harmoniously to retain our seats. We are according paramount importance to the by-polls, considering their pivotal role as a precursor to the 2025 assembly polls,” Shakti Singh Yadav, the state RJD spokesperson, told TOI.
With the exception of Rupauli, the remaining four seats have been rendered vacant following the election of the incumbent MLAs to the Lok Sabha. Imamganj MLA Jitan Ram Manjhi (HAM-S) won the Gaya LS seat and was subsequently inducted as a Union minister in the Narendra Modi govt. Simultaneously, RJD MLA from Belaganj, Surendra Prasad Yadav, won the Jehanabad LS constituency. Likewise, Tarari legislator Sudama Prasad (CPI-ML) emerged victorious from Ara, while Ramgarh legislator Sudhakar Singh (RJD) clinched the Buxar seat.
The circumstances surrounding Rupauli legislator Bima Bharti are slightly divergent. Bharti, who had secured her assembly seat on a JD(U) ticket in the 2020 polls, resigned from her position after obtaining the RJD ticket to contest the Purnia LS seat. However, she suffered a defeat at the hands of Independent candidate Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav.
