Mumbai: Bombay high court has directed that police protection be given forthwith to an advocate pending a decision by police authorities on his application seeking protection for himself and his family from illegal hawkers.
A bench led by Justice Revati Mohite Dere was told in Sept 2020, after hawkers threatened Firdause Irani, a Goregaon resident, HC granted him interim police protection. The competent authority granted police protection until Jul 2021. On Feb 1, the hawkers allegedly threatened him with dire consequences. On Mar 25, a stone was thrown, damaging his vehicle.
While directing protection to Irani till Apr 16, the judges directed the police to decide if action needs to be initiated against those responsible. TNN
