Man gets 20-yr RI for kidnap, rape of teen | Bhubaneswar News

Kendrapada: A Pocso court in Jajpur on Saturday sentenced a 26-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a minor girl in 2022.
“Special judge Abhijit Palei pronounced the verdict after examining the statements of 13 witnesses, including the girl’s, and medical reports,” special public prosecutor Rajiv Mohanty said.
The convict was also fined Rs 20,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six month of imprisonment. The court has directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to provide a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the girl.
According to the prosecution, the man kidnapped the then 15-year-old girl on Dec 29, 2022, while she was heading to a nearby market. The girl’s mother filed an FIR the same day, identifying the accused as their neighbour.
Police rescued the girl from Keonjhar district on Jan 5, 2023, and arrested the man. He was charged under IPC sections 376(2n) (repeated rape), 376(3) (rape of minor under 16), 363 (kidnapping), and Section 6 of the Pocso Act, 2012.
