BU organises prog on transgender rights | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: The Berhampur University (BU) on Thursday organised a programme promoting awareness about transgender rights.
The day-long programme was organised by the department of journalism and mass communication and sociology in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence, under the ministry of social justice and empowerment and the state govt. BU vice-chancellor Geetanjali Dash, who inaugurated the event, emphasised the importance of education among transgender communities. She also highlighted the success of several transgender individuals despite facing numerous obstacles in their journey. “The university is committed to protecting all the rights of transgender individuals while they enrol in the university to study or work as employees, on par with others,” Dash added.
Several transgenders from silk city attended the programme and shared their experiences and the difficulties they faced in leading a decent life in society.
