'Pitbull and Doberman': Woman scientist injured in attack by 2 dogs in Mumbai

NEW DELHI: A 37-year-old woman scientist sustained multiple injuries and had to undergo nose reconstruction surgery after being attacked by two pet dogs in Mumbai’s Powai, police said on Thursday.
The dogs—a Pitbull and a Doberman—belong to Divesh Virk and were under the care of his driver and housemaid when the incident occurred on the morning of March 22.
Police have registered a case against all three, an official said.
The victim, Richa Kaushik-Arora, a research scientist working for a private firm, was walking towards her under-renovation flat at Jal Vayu Vihar in Powai when the attack took place.
Virk’s driver and maid had brought the dogs to the area in a car. However, the maid lost control of their leashes, leading both dogs to lunge at Kaushik-Arora, severely injuring her face, nose, hands, and legs, the official added.
A fellow resident and the woman’s father-in-law rushed her to a private hospital, where she underwent surgery to reconstruct her nose.
After being informed of the incident, Powai police arrived at the scene. Acting on Kaushik-Arora’s complaint, they registered a case against the owner’s driver, maid, and Virk himself on March 23. An investigation is currently underway.
