HYDERABAD: It may not be their core duty, but police in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district in Telangana are attempting to bring 335 villages together to vie for and win the trophy in a volleyball tournament that will be conducted.
Since the announcement was made on March 18, the Koutala police station already received nearly 20 entries.
District SP Srinivas Rao invited every village to send a team to participate in the tournament to be organised from March 24 for three days. The tournament will be held at the Koutala police station. There will also be prizes for the winners and certificates.
“The tournament is open to everyone. The team members can comprise anyone from the village interested in playing,” a police officer told TOI on Wednesday. The initiative is being described as an outreach programme of ‘friendly police’, an image that the Telangana police are building for themselves to get closer to the people. The last date for sending entries is March 22.
