Ex-sarpanch beaten to death in Telangana’s Suryapet; 17 suspects booked | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: An ex-sarpanch of Miryala village in Suryapet district was murdered at his agricultural field in the village on Monday.
The 65-year-old Manchu Chakraiah was attacked with sticks and hit on his head. He was pronounced dead upon being taken to the govt hospital at Suryapet.
Based on a complaint given by the daughter of the deceased, police booked a case against 17 persons and began an investigation.
Chakraiah, who belongs to the ruling Congress party, returned to the village after a visit to Mahbubabad district. After he arrived in the village around 3 pm, he went to his fields alone to work there.
After he was attacked, he lay in an unconscious state. A local shepherd who noticed him alerted the police, who shifted him to the hospital.
As political rivalries were also suspected in the murder, police stepped up vigilance in the village to prevent any further trouble. The victim, Chakraiah, is said to be an associate of Thungathury MLA Mandula Samuel of the ruling Congress party.
