Govt nod to Rs 12k-cr road project to decongest capital city

Bhubaneswar: In order to decongest the city, the govt has approved a mega road expansion project for Bhubaneswar worth Rs 12,000 crore, local MP Aparajita Sarangi informed on social media. This includes widening the busy Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan Road and constructing flyovers at Kalpana and Sishu Bhawan Square.
Taking to X, Aparajita posted, “Met CM Mohan Charan Majhi on September 24 and January 25 and requested him to allow Bhubaneswar Road Expansion proposals. Am glad that all proposals worth Rs 12,000 crore are approved.”
Aparajita had proposed widening the Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan Road by 200m to decongest the busy stretch. She also proposed constructing flyovers from Kalpana Square to Ravi Talkies Square and Sishu Bhawan Square to Museum Square.
Additionally, she proposed an outer ring road for Bhubaneswar, covering a length of approximately 148km. “The area encircled between the outer and inner ring road of Bhubaneswar city can be considered monetised through effective planning,” she proposed.
The MP also proposed the development of Daya west canal embankment road. “Daya west canal lost its significance because most of the cultivated land was converted into homestead land, and multiple residential establishments also came up in the ayacut area,” she had stated.
She advocated that the development of the embankment of the canal would serve as a major arterial road for the internal traffic of Bhubaneswar. “You are requested to issue appropriate instruction to the works department for necessary action at their end,” she said.
