Bangladeshi man overstaying in city for 20 years arrested

Bengaluru: A 50-year-old Bangladeshi national was arrested on charges of illegally staying in the city for over 20 years.
Mohammed Siddiq, a scrap merchant, told police he entered India through West Bengal in 2006 and lived in Delhi for a few months before arriving in Bengaluru. Siddiq lives with his wife and two daughters in Doddabanahalli, Kadugodi.
Police recovered an Aadhaar card and voter ID, issued with his Doddabanahalli residence address. According to cops, Siddiq produced fake documents to obtain these cards.
His wife, also from Bangladesh, is nine months pregnant and expected to deliver a child anytime. “Owing to her condition, we are not acting against her as of now,” an investigating officer stated.
Cops recovered eight Aadhaar cards from Siddiq’s house. “They belong to his relatives, and Siddiq claims he stored them for official purposes. We have submitted the cards to Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) regional office in Khanija Bhavan and are awaiting a response,” he said.
