Bhubaneswar: State govt announced on Wednesday that it will implement the integrated healthcare coverage programme, combining the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and state’s Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (G-JAY), starting April 1, Odisha’s formation day.
CM Mohan Charan Majhi, chairing a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan, also announced the simultaneous launch of Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana, a specialised scheme for senior citizens above 70 years.
The integrated programme, following an agreement signed with National Health Authority in Jan, is expected to benefit around 3.52 crore people across the state. Under the scheme, male beneficiaries will receive medical coverage up to Rs 5 lakh, while women will be eligible for up to Rs 10 lakh. Families with members aged above 70 years can avail medical benefits up to Rs 15 lakh.
“This is a landmark initiative that will transform healthcare access in Odisha,” said health minister Mukesh Mahaling. The programme will cover 1.03 crore families, with AB-PMJAY benefiting 67.8 lakh families and Gopabandhu Yojana covering 35.8 lakh families.
The Vay Vandana Yojana will specifically cater to 23.12 lakh elderly residents, including 6 lakh new beneficiaries not covered under existing schemes. Beneficiaries can access medical services at over 29,000 govt and registered private hospitals nationwide.
The govt plans to launch the scheme simultaneously across all 1,438 primary health centres in the state, supported by a comprehensive awareness campaign.
